Dear HRSA Grant Program Directors:

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will celebrate National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) May 13-19, 2012.  In conjunction with NWHW, National Women’s Check-Up Day will be celebrated on May 14, 2012.

Many national, regional, state and local organizations are already on board to ensure as many women as possible are reached during NWHW.  As front-line health care workers and communicators, you are uniquely positioned to play a critical role in this important national health awareness campaign.  There are many ways to participate.  You can host a health fair during the week of May 13-19, or partner with local providers to offer women in your community free health services, such as blood pressure checks, Pap tests, mammograms, diabetes screenings, or HIV testing. You can also highlight the work of HRSA-supported clinicians or trainees who work to improve the health of female patients in their communities in your newsletter or on your website.

National Women’s Health Week offers yet another opportunity to increase direct health care services to those most in need.  Any women’s health event that occurs during the month of May is eligible for inclusion in the NWHW online Activity Registry at www.womenshealth.gov/whw.  Organizations that add their events to the online registry will be considered NWHW partners.  HRSA grantees and the public may also access free online promotion and educational materials to support their efforts at the NWHW website above.

In 2011, more than 100,000 people participated in over 2,000 National Women’s Health Week events and screenings nationwide and helped make NWHW a success.  Please join us again this year to help thousands of women take steps toward leading healthier lives.

Sincerely,
